Marikina City Walking Tour and Photo Walk

Posted by Ada on Category: Luzon, Marikina | 37 Comments

I was born and raised in Marikina but now lives in Cainta, Rizal. However, every time people ask me where do I live, I still say, “Marikina.” March 5, was originally a settled date for me and Marky (no, not that romantic date but a date of friendship) since we’re both free on that day. When Anton proposed to me to have a photowalk in Marikina, I immediately agreed and even created an itinerary and therefore plead Marky to make our date a group date instead.

It was raining early in the morning but that didn’t stop us from having the photo walk. We met up at LRT Santolan Station, finally met another photoblogger Jonver, and started walking going to Industrial Valley Complex (IVC) where this nice and colorful facade project by the Fernando are located. This facade is for the purpose of covering the inferior living condition of some MarikeƱos living there.

Joey Pepperoni Pizzeria at Marikina

Posted by Ada on Category: Luzon, Marikina | 7 Comments

I’ve always wanted to eat at Joey’s since this place is just 1 trike away from our house, but I can’t come there alone. So I asked a friend to eat there.

Crews are really hospitable as in very very, to the maximum level! I’ve never encounter such hospitable crews in a dining restaurant like them. Though waiters are that not cute, I find them cute na! Really warm and very hospitable.

Marikina: Mostly Affected by Typhoon Ondoy

Posted by Ada on Category: Luzon, Marikina | 54 Comments

Marikina is one of the city that Philippines should be proud for. Fernandos coined Marikina as “The Little Singapore” and “The City in the Pink of Health” for it’s effective governance.

During my elementary years, Bayani Fernando included “Marikina” in our HEKASI (Heograpiya, Kasaysayan at Sibika) subject. I still remember Marikina’s motto: Discipline, Good Taste, and Excellence and quote about garbage, Mumunting basura, ibulsa muna.

I can say that Marikina is nearly a perfect city but geographically at risk of dangerous natural calamities such as earthquake and massive flood.

According to our History teacher, Marikina is a valley. A low land which lies between high areas of Sierra Madre (east) and Quezon City (west). Cainta and Pasig are also part of this valley.

September 26, 2009, Saturday. I woke up at 2:45 PM, went downstairs and irritated by wet floor. It was raining hard and nobody was there. I went to 1st floor with flood above the knee and shocked that they are transferring our computers to the 2nd floor.

Taken at 3:28PM. Flood is about 5 feet.

We are so busy transferring our things from 1st floor to 2nd floor. It’s too late before we found out our neighbor in front of our house, was not able to save any single thing except from themselves. Flood really goes up so fast. Continue reading »
