Aliwan Fiesta or dubbed as “The Mother of All Fiestas,” is an annual event that gathers different cultural festivals of the Philippines in Star City Complex in Pasay City wherein contingents compete in dance parade and float competitions, as well as in a beauty pageant. Organized by Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC) together with Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and the cities of Manila and Pasay, with prizes totaling to P3 million (roughly US$70,000).
This year’s schedule will be on April 11 to 13, 2013 starting from Quirino Grand Stand towards Aliw Theater in CCP Complex.
April 11 – PasaKalye: Inter School Dance Competition
April 12 – Reyna ng Aliwan Pageant Night
April 13 – Streetdance and Float Parade and Competition, Reyna ng Aliwan coronation, and Awarding Ceremonies.
The Criteria for Judging for this Year’s Aliwan Fiesta Streetdance competition:
Theme/Concept – 35%; Choreography – 20%; Performance – 20%; Costume – 15%; Props – 10%, Total f 100%
The last time I went to Aliwan Fiesta was 2010 together with the Marikina Photographers Club. It was seriously a crazy hot afternoon but the participants were not bothered. I think this year’s Aliwan Fiesta is going be more fun and exciting. So if you’re coming, let me know and see you there!
