Watched an X-Rated movie on a plane by accident: A Travel Exposé

Cathay Pacific was more than an aircraft. In each and every backseat, attached is an LCD screen with wide selection of movies, TV series, shows, and music to choose from. Cozy.

After the safety rules, the plane operator finally switched the screen to a dynamic menu where you can choose to watch movies or listen to the music. I took a sneak peak to my itinerary and found out that travel time from HKIA to Japan Narita Airport was 5 hours. I decided to watch movie then.

Being thrilled, I detached  the remote control, grabbed the headpiece and plugged it to the audio jack and chose to watch The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo movie. In the middle of the movie, I felt ashamed when I noticed the old lady who was sitting beside me turned her head to my LCD and gave a disgust reaction to the movie and most especially, to me.

In the first place, I wasn’t really aware that the movie has nudity and explicit scenes. The lady gave me a hey-stop-watching-that-movie-it’s-x-rated look and from my peripheral vision, I noticed a raise on her eyebrows which reminded me of mad Oscar the Grouch of Sesame Street. I pretended that I didn’t notice her and continued watching the scene where Rooney Mara was tied up on a prone position being raped by a pig. Okay too much of the details. But the story of the movie was indeed very good.

When I searched for another movie, I later found out that the every movie has a corresponding Rating, and the movie I watched was Rated R and tagged “of strong sexually-oriented nudity.” Tsk, too late for me to find out.

Hello Ms Ada, I haven’t visited your blog in a while now. I like the new look. As for the movie, it was well done but the books are far better. The woman next to you had no right to comment imply etc. The airline provided a movie that it had viewed and decided it could broadcast inflight. No problem.
